Hi, this is Mara Keith-Hunter for Expert Village. Today we would be talking about how to groom a horse. So the next step is going to be to pick out their feet. What we want to do first of all I'm going to move him over just a step. Good! Then you are always going to face towards the back. I'm going to put my weight against his shoulders so he shifts his weight to the opposite side. You are going to run your hand down his leg while leaning. Then you are going to pick up his foot and use the hoof pick. So the next step is going to pick at his feet. We are going to start by making sure that you have plenty of space. Then you are only going to face the back of the horse. I'm going to lean my weight on to him so he pushes his weight to the other side. I'm going to run my hands down his leg as he lifts it, you just pick it up. You really want to support his foot. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty. You are going to use the hoof pick to clean out any dirt along side of his frog. Which is this part of his foot. Then some hoof picks have this brushing part that you can use to finish. I'm going to go ahead and do the other side. Once again, we are going to push him over. Lean up against him put your hands down his leg. Support well with your hands and pick out always picking down so you don't get the dirt back onto you. Brush to finish.
