How to Use a Curry Comb on Horses

Hi! This is Mara Keith-Hunter for Expert Village. Today we will be talking about how to groom a horse. So to begin with we are going to use a curry comb. There are three basic types of curry combs. The first is a metal curry comb which all horses don't like because it is metal and it is hard. The second is a very basic average curry comb which is made of rubber and the third is a soft curry that you can use on the bony parts of their body like their legs and their face. So today we are going to start by using just a regular curry comb and the way that is most effective is if you start up at the neck and use small circular motions working down towards the back. It is important that you only concentrate on the meaty areas as if you get down to their legs where there is less flesh, it can begin to get uncomfortable for them. So as you can see as I curry all the dirt that is underneath the layers of the hair is starting to come out and most horses find this relaxing and it is just a good way to start off the day.
