CHRIS MURPHY: Hi. On behalf of Expert Village, this is Chris Murphy. I'm here at the New York Comedy Club in New York City. Today we're going to talk about how to have a career in comedy. Okay, this is recommendations. This is the way most comics get the majority of their work, other the people speaking on their behalf. I mean, I'm sure you noticed that nobody wants to make the first move about anyone. They always look for a--look around, "Oh, gee. Does this person think he's okay? Is he okay?" That's how people work. They want others to say something first. So, what you do, you make sure your act is good before you ask anyone for this kind of favor, then you approach a comic in good standing you have a good friendly relationship and you ask him, "Hey, would you mind giving a call to this guy and recommending me?" And usually, they will because they know you're looking up to them and they like the fact that, "Hey, I'm helping someone out. This guy respects me." So, they enjoy doing that. Also, a club owner can help you out too, alright? So, ask a club owner to give you a hand. So, that's how--the best way to get work, recommendations.
