Ceramics & Pottery: Opening the Clay
Hi! My name is Vincent Sansone and I am the Director of the Ceramics Department here at Crealde School of Art and today for Expert Village I am going to show you how to open a piece of clay on the potter’s wheel so that I can make a pot. I have a foot pedal that turns the wheel on and I have already centered the clay, so now I will put my thumb in the clay and keeping my hand steady. Now I have made an opening and now I have to make the bottom of the pot by pulling the clay out. Next, I have raised the wall.
