Adding Orchids to a Tropical Arrangement

GREG HAREM: Now to place our penny orchids. Again, this come in packages of five to ten. And you want to look at the tube that they come in to make sure it's about halfway full. That means, again, that they're fresh. Just take the tube off, and if the stem has lost its buds on the very top, just cut it off. It's not going to make a bit of difference. Cut at an angle. Now, what you want to do is make a cluster around your ginger. Just insert. Just continue to do this until you get a nice mass of the penny orchids all around your ginger. Again if they get stuck, just kind of wiggle 'em; they will break free. And if the petals kinda break, it's not going to matter 'cause there's going to be such a mass of 'em you're not going to notice a little bit of damage. The thing with tropicals is you want to mass them together 'cause that gives you the really--the impact of their beauty. 'Cause you don't want things competing. Again, I'm using these colors just for a more masculine kind of appeal. See? Nice clump. So next we'll be doing the lilies.
