Paying Attention to Different Colored Tiles in Orange Box's Portal

JOHN SEXTON: Hi, I'm John Sexton on behalf of Expert Village. Today, we're going to be learning how to play Portal, a game by Valve Software, a company with which I have no affiliation. So here we have another momentum puzzle. We see the familiar launch pad exit up there. Only this time, our force field is so far away that even if we put a portal here on the floor, initially, it's not going to be enough to get us across because we can't put one on the ground here because this is the black material that doesn't allow us to shoot a portal. So what we can do is put one here. If you'll look at the ground carefully, you'll notice that the tiles in this patch of ground are just a little bit different from the surrounding tiles. That's a good clue that we're going to need to put our portal right here. There's another room to this test chamber. Let's see what it has to offer. Well, this is a higher jumping point which will give us a little bit more momentum. Why don't we start with that? So we put our blue portal here and jump through, and we see that that spit us out right around the spot where the tiles are different.
