Maneuvering Power Balls into the Receptacle in Orange Box's Portal

JOHN SEXTON: Hi, I'm John Sexton on behalf of Expert Village. Today, we're going to be learning how to play Portal, a game by Valve Software, a company with which I have no affiliation. What we need to do once we get the ball into this force field though is to make more portals. We can step through the force field and our portals disappear. So now the ball is trapped in this area. We have to be quick though because if we wait too long, the ball will pop. I think it just did. But what we need to do is once we get the ball in here, we'll make an entrance on the wall and an exit on the ceiling and that will allow the ball to come right into the receptacle. So let's set it up again, blue and orange. And once it comes out, we'll step through the force field to delete those portals, and then we'll make an orange one and a blue one. And there it goes right into the receptacle and that activated our elevator where we can go to find the exit. So that's something that's kind of initially difficult to grasp about the way the portals work is that sometimes you might have to make a portal, let something go through it and then quickly erase the portal so that the thing doesn't go back through. You're going to have to sort of trap the ball in stages in different places along the environment to get it to where you want to go.
