Types of Boots to Wear for Riding a Sport Bike
Hi, my name is Chad. We’re talking about sport bikes and the gear that makes riding them a whole lot of fun and a lot safer. We’ve covered helmets, gloves, jackets, pants, and now we’re getting down to the feet. When you ride a bike, and you’re looking at gear, you’re looking at gear to protect you, of course, for the inevitability of falling off. What you want to do always in what you’re wearing on your feet is make sure that you have good protection. Protection for you toes, it’s entirely enclosed, and then it comes up above your ankle bone. One of the accidents you have is when you hit the bone, your ankle hits the road, it’ll shatter that bone and cause a pretty bad injury. So the best thing to do is to wear a pair of boots, at least ankle high with padding around the ankle. A lot of people wear Doc Martens or combat boots, and that’s the absolute minimum. Far better still would be a pair of boots like this, actual riding boots. Dedicated riding boots made to ride on the track, and they work find on the street as well. They’re not as comfortable, you don’t want to walk around in them all day, so it’d be good to have a change when you get to where you’re going. But these boots provide a lot of protection a lot of different ways. It has a piece of carbon fiber armor up front so if you hit a pole or something hard, it’ll protect your shin bone, or rather, the front of your ankle. It’s got pieces of plastic, hard plastic, flexible armor, that limit the movement of your ankles so you can’t over extend and also, so if you hit something in the back, that it also won’t break the back of your leg. And then it has a hard cup here, so if you’re sliding on the ground, it protects the back of your heel. Then there’s pieces of armor- there’s toe sliders for when you’re going around a corner really fast; sometimes your toe will hit the ground and you’ll grind a little bit. It’s got a movable, adjustable piece here that keeps you from overextending the toe. Right now its all the way open- you can close it all the way and it won’t bend at all. So basically, your boot is a very important piece of equipment; absolutely you want to wear nothing less than a padded ankle boot, much better still is a boot like this made for riding, and will keep your ankles and legs in feet in one piece if you have an accident.
