Teaching Reading with Flash Cards

Some more words that are great to put on flash cards include groups, especially groups that include a lot of words that have non-phonetic parts to them. The ones that I think that are most important in this very beginning are numbers; one, two, three, written out because a lot of them are not phonetic. Colors, days of the week, months of the year. Now remember months of the year are very long, you don't want your child to have to necessarily have to memorize how to write that without seeing it, but they should know how to recognize the difference between January and February. When they write their date on the top of every page and every worksheet and everything they ever do for now on, like they should, they can take the card out and copy it and pretty soon they will start to memorize it. And then some simple words that don't follow the phonetic rules exactly like friend, because the i-e should not make a simple Ee sound because it does and day and then you can also if you want to, once they get these I think these should come first, you can also move into relatives, aunt and any other groups that you can think of that have some non-phonetic features. Remember put a rubber band around each group, keep them all safely in your box and keep all your materials in one place and keep them always organized, always cleaned, teach your child to put them away. Do not ever let them get up and run until everything is just the way it started out.
