How to Teach Silent "E" to Children

About this time if your child has mastered all of the other rules up until this point, they are ready for silent E. Now silent E is something that in a lot of ciriculum is not taught until first grade. However, with this simple method, practiced everyday one on one your child will move much faster and still in our kindergarten series, you can very easily introduce silent E. Now silent E simply means that the E is on the end, but it doesn't make a sound. What it does is it makes the vowel in that word say its name. So now we're in a whole new group of vowels, we're no longer saying A E I O U, the vowels are saying their names; A E I O U. So group them together with words that have the short vowel and have them sound out cap. But explain, now that we have an E on the end, it's not cap it's cape. Tap, turns into tape, and don't give it to them, say what is the name of that vowel? He's saying his name now because the E is making him say his name; tape and is it tap-e? Nope, that E is silent, his only job is to make the vowel say his name. And then you can come up with as many as you can think of and I'm throwing blends in there too. Then I threw in another whole page of just words with silent E. Your child will learn this pretty quickly, go faster and faster here. It's hard to fine one's with U that make the U sound instead of an Uu. But here's cute and anymore that you can think of.
