How to Do Basic Partner Bachata Dance Steps

Hi, I'm Christina and actually, this is Miriam Suargenzaro. She's helping me out today. We're showing you Bachata. You're actually learning the Bachata steps and I'm borrowing Miriam, today, so she can actually show us what it looks like in partnering. First, I want to show you closed position. For the gentleman the right hand goes to the back. You wan an open palm, and you want it as close to the center of the back as you can. Also, notice, my elbow is open and rounded. Now this is creating a frame. She's placing her left arm, just lightly resting on mine, with the hand on the shoulder. The right hand, she places her hand in min. It's just open here. This is a normal dancers closed position. Elbows are down, you don't want the elbows out. You're pretty much relaxed, but you do need a little bit of energy in this hand, called resistance, so that you can feel the lead and the follow. Now, what we're going to do, is come kind of an this angle so you can see the step. We're going to do the basic step in closed position. And, we're going to go from a closed position to an open position so that you can see the transition. So, again, we're starting. And, step, step, step. Step, step, step. Now we come into an open position, five, six, seven, eight. So, if you've noticed, all I did was I took my hand and slid down and we caught here. Now, we're two hands, this is called open position, and we did the same step here in an open position. Okay, again, we'll smooth it out. It looks like this. Five, six, seven, eight. Goes one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. That's the basic Bachata step.
