How to Do Basic Bachata Dance Steps
So with bachata you want to start with the most basic step first and rhythm. Here's what it looks like (dancing) so breaking it down it's a three step pattern and then there's a hip, a little hip action that happens. So it starts with the right, feet come together step right again as the foot comes in you're going to sink down on a plie, which means a bent knee. You are going to lift that hip a little bit you are isolating the hip, look at what I'm doing (dancing) trying to isolate the hip. Then we do the same thing step together step and hip, so that is the basic step. Let's try it again it goes right left right hip left right left hip right left right hip left right left hip. So know we're going to take the step and we're actually going to do what this step that I just showed you is more in a closed position. When you are closed you will be able to cross, now if you are in a open position it's the same step but we can make it much bigger. How do we do that? You're going to cross over with them left instead of stepping together it looks like this. (dancing) Step cross, step hip step cross step hip so breaking that down step to the right. You are actually going to cross over so instead of having to bring in the foot in you are going to pass your other foot, cross it over step as you bring this foot. Give it a hip and left right left hip. Now let me talk about the hip you can do different things you can make it small, ladies you want to actually excentuate the hip as much as you want. Gentleman if you aren't comfortable doing the hip you don't have to do it at all. If you want you can just do a little bit of a tap just make sure that you're doing a little bit of an accent there and holding that beat. But ladies you definitely want to do the hip, men the hip is optional you can add that hip in or you can take that hip out. I've seen it both ways so that is the basic bachata step, let me show you one last time (dancing). Here's closed position bachata and now we'll go into open position.
