Rock Merengue Dance Steps

As you're learning merengue, this is another basic step I'm going to show you how to do a rock step from the merengue rhythm. Again, this is just the footwork, the basics that you're getting here. Here's our basic. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Here's the rock step. I'm going to step forward and neutral, forward and neutral. I'm alternating. Forward and neutral, forward and neutral. Then we can take you to even bigger. Forward, back, forward, back, forward, back, and back to neutral. Let me break that down. If you're starting just with the basic merengue step as we've already learned. Now you're going to take that step and go forward. As you go forward, you're going to take it into a rock step. What do I mean by that? I mean kind of like a quick, quick, slow, quick, quick, slow. If you notice, I'm letting my hips go forward and back together, forward, back, together. Again, forward, together, and forward, together. Notice the rhythm hasn't changed. I'm still dancing. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. Now, as I go to the back, instead of coming to neutral here, I'm swinging forward and back, forward and back, and then coming to neutral. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, forward and back, forward and back, and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.
