The Traveling Side Step in the Cha Cha Dance

CHRISTINA HAGGERTY: Hi, I'm Christina Haggerty, and I'm teaching at Silhouette's in Burbank, and the class you're learning today is LA style Cha-cha-cha, breaking on two. The step I'm teaching you right now is a side basic, and we're going to travel the cha-cha-cha. Let me show you, out of the basic, it goes one, two, three, four, and five, six, seven, eight, and one. Here's the side basic, three, now you're going to cross in front of your cha-cha-cha, eight, and one. And we can go back into our basic after that if we'd like to, cha-cha-cha. So again, let me break it down now. So here's your basic, one, two, three, four, and five, six, seven, eight, and one. Now watch, I'm stepping side on my left, coming back center to neutral. Now instead of doing my cha-cha-cha in place like I did before, now my cha cha cha is actually going to cross over. You're going to go step, step, step. It's almost like you've hurt yourself with your left leg and you're kind of dragging it along. That's kind of what you're doing here. So you're going side, step, cha-cha-cha, three quick steps. And now, we're going to repeat on the right, you're going to step out, step to the left, and now cross in front, cross, catch up, cross. Then out of that, you can break forward onto your basic cha-cha-cha and back basic, cha-cha-cha. So again, let's put it all together. It goes one, two, three, four, and five, six, seven, eight, and one, two, three, four, and five, six, seven, eight, and one, here is our forward, cha-cha-cha, back basic, cha-cha-cha.
