Hi, my name is Lauren and on behalf of Expert Village I'm here to show you how to achieve various styles through using regular braids. When you are braiding your hair you can actually add a lot of different things just to kind of make it a little more dressed up for the day if you want. I'm just going to do a regular braid, and I'm going to show you how you can insert a ribbon within that braid in order to kind of dress the braid up. Again, you are going to start it with your peace sign, separate those sections. You want your sections to be rather even. So, if they are not just separate it again until you get sections that are pretty much the same in diameter and you can feel it. I'm using leftover Christmas ribbon from presents that were wrapped with ribbon. I'm just going to start this off by placing it around the middle section. I'm going to place it over, and then I'm going to bring it under. So, you are almost weaving it through the hair in order to get it started with that ribbon. I'm going to hold the ribbon with the hair in the section and I'm going to simply bring this section over, like you would start any other regular braid. I'm going to do the same thing on the other side; the hair should overlay the ribbon. Use the ribbon if you like as more of a guide; you can use it to gather the hair. Then you are going to start with your braiding. Now, it will be secure within the braid because you are combining it with the hair. So, you can take your everyday braid and add a little bit of flair just by adding some ribbon. It can be as colorful, as shiny as anything else that you would like. You can match it every day to your outfits and it gives you a little bit more flair, a little bit more versatility rather than just your everyday braid.
I always wondered how to do that! It looks as if it's a good idea to use fairly wide ribbon. I'm going to give that a try. Thanks!
