Black Skirt Tetra Care

CHRISTIE OWNES: Hi. My name is Christie and I'm with Expert Village and I'm teaching you proper care of fish today and a little bit about the different types of fish. And now we're going to talk about black skirt tetras. I've got two black skirt tetras in my tank which are the two dollar-shaped fish. They don't have their original color anymore simply for the fact they're eighteen years old now and have lost their color. They also don't have a lot of their fins as well because years of being with other fish and getting nipped at. Black skirt tetras originally start out with a black color with black bands running down their sides. They are schooling fish, like to swim in schools of six or more. Unfortunately, I'm just down to the last two and don't look forward to replacing them because I'd like to add some other fish into the tank as well. They like a water temperature anywhere between 75 to 78 degrees, they like a low pH, around 6.0 to 7.2, they're a community fish, mix well with others, and typically don't pick at anybody. But occasionally, they're having some of my gold dust mollies when my female just has to have babies. I do have to keep a close watch on that about those two.
