How to Use Connectors in Audio Recording

On behalf of Expert Village, Kurt Glaser, KGB Studios, Seattle. Let's continue now with our sessions on "How to Use a Two Track Reel to Reel Tape Recorder". Alright, so what if you don't have one of these little adapters for multiple headphones? Well, you'll have to go to your neighborhood hardware store and pick yourself up one of these. It's called a "Y" connector. A "Y" is, it converts one stereo quarter inch male to two quarter inch stereo females, so you can plug two headphones into your reel to reel recorder and listen. The downside is that it's going to pull the volume control down a little bit and so you'll have to probably crank up the volume a little bit to get a little bit more "oomf" on the signal, but these "Y's" are great. What if you have a small mini jack, a mini headphone? Well, you'll have to buy one of these converters, and this converter basically converts this size, the mini stereo, into a large quarter inch stereo adapter for headphone jack. So if you can't fit that in, buy yourself one of these and you'll have that. And one final thing is if you have a small mini connector, and you want to get a single large headphone jack in like this, you want a large headphone jack in like on our headphones, you plug this into here, and it goes the other way. So you'll have all three setups and all different genders. So what I recommend always is to get all of the genders, all of the types, mono and stereo, so that you have all of your connectors and your adapters totally set and ready to go. With that, let's go to the next session for Expert Village, and we're ongoing our discussion with "How to Use a Reel to Reel Tape Deck".
