How to Record Turntable Audio to Reel to Reel

On behalf of Expert Village, Kurt Glaser, KGB Studios, Seattle. Let's continue now with our sessions on "How to use a Two Track Reel to Reel Tape Recorder". Alright, let me see, does anybody know what this is? Does anybody have an idea of what this might be? Yes, it's a turntable. A record player is what we used to call them in the 60's, a turntable. Now how do you hook one of those up? And let's show you how to do that to the reel to reel. Well, you take the cables, in this case, in this one, we're in luck on this particular deck because these are actually great. These are RCA coming right out, and we go right into the red right and inputs here. And we have a nice grounding cable which we connect directly up to our grounding connector so that the potential or the ground for both the deck and the turntable are exactly the same. Then you adjust your line inputs. In this case, some turntables, you have to use an amplifier. In this one you don't, but you can turn the knobs up relatively high, and that would get you the volume right off the record. Now keep in mind you're going to hear the snap, crackle, pop, and that you can fix with any number of audio software to take care of the clicks and the hisses. That's how you connect up a turntable or a record player to the two track reel to reel tape deck. And last, but not least, you can connect the reel to reel to a boom box. All you need is some RCA cables again. If you take the RCA cables and plug them into this line output jack here, and then the other end of these RCA cables go in directly into the reel to reel. You'll have your boom box with you and you can have music, audio, video, all sorts of things, onto your reel to reel that way as well. That's how you interface, or connect up all these various devices. Join us next session where we'll continue with some tools and some tips and tricks on "How to Take Care and Maintain Your Two Track Reel to Reel Tape Deck". For Expert Village, I'm Kurt Glaser. See you next time.
