Hi, I'm Gretchen Soares and welcome to Expert Village. Today we're going to be making soy candles. In this clip we're going to talk about why we're going to make soy candle versus paraffin candles. Soy is a natural product. This is a byproduct of a soy bean. They've taken it and pureed it down and made it in to little chips and this is what we're going to make our soy candles from. But this does actually come from the soy beans off of a soy plant and there's no additives in here so it's very natural and healthy which is the first reason why we burn soy versus paraffin. Also, soy burns at a much cooler temperature. The only part of this that is going to be hot that you can get burned from is the flame. The actual liquid, you won't get burned at all. It's actually very good, it's high in Vitamin E and it's very good for your skin. It's a great moisturizer also which is not why we make candles out of it but it's a byproduct when you spill them you can just rub right in to your hand. No problem. If you were to do that with paraffin, paraffin's burning level is so hot you would actually be burning yourself. You would have been putting on something that would burn your skin. It's also burns very clean. You're not going to have a lot of smoke from your wick, as you can see the wick is not smoking and you're not going to end up with black soot on your walls or black soot on your containers as you would with a paraffin candle. So that's why we burn soy versus paraffin.
