Attaching the Stem to the Cap for Mushroom Incense Burner

Hi, I'm Melina, and welcome to Expert Village. Today we're going to be making a beautiful mushroom and butterfly incense burner out of polymer clay. In this next step we're going to attach the stem to the mushroom cap. We're going to take a poking device, and you can use anything you want. You can use a nail or any sort of sharp, preferably metallic object. You don't want to use wood because wood is going to leave little microscopic shards of splinters and wood inside, so you want to use something metal. This is the tool that you use for corn. It works perfectly. So, we're going to go ahead and cross-hatch the top of the stem, and then we're going to cross-hatch the cap right where we would like to attach the stem and you can press in a little with your finger. Because that's where we want it, and cross-hatch again. This is a transfer color medium. You use this to transfer colors and drawings onto clay and it works perfectly as a glue. Put some in the middle of your cap. Right where you had indented and cross-hatched. You're going to put some on the stem and then you're going to attach the stem to the cap. Now we have a really cute little mushroom.
