How to Monitor a Fire

Hi, I'm Bobby on behalf of Expert Village. In this series I am going to show you several different ways that you could easily light a fire within your fireplace and I am going to show you several safety techniques and things that you need to be aware of when lighting a fire in your house. So now we've showed you how to build a fire in your fireplace and you just from here on out, keep an eye on your fire as it is burning. You don't want to start a really large fire and leave your house. A fire is always trying to grow and move and it is almost like a living beam because it is starving for food and oxygen. It will take over your house really quick if you don't keep an eye on it. A spark could fly out and hit your rug that is why we have gone over the safety measure of having screens, actually I have a double screen here on the fireplace and this is an exterior screen and kept an eye on all of the flammable materials that are away from the fire. You never want to have like gasoline or anything like that around the fireplace including drapes. You might want to watch your rugs. You might have a nice rug in front of your fireplace that it might be best to roll it up and put it somewhere else while burning a fire. Just take a little extra thought as far as what possible dangers there might be with having a fire in your house especially if you are going to have to leave the room for a while.
