How to Build a Right Sized Fire

Hi, I'm Bobby on behalf of Expert Village. In this series I am going to show you several different ways that you could easily light a fire within your fireplace and I am going to show you several safety techniques and things that you need to be aware of when lighting a fire in your house. Okay my fire is going pretty good now and I may be tempted to throw a little bit more wood on there to have even a bigger fire or perhaps it is really cold outside and you want to warm up. For this size of fireplace, I really don't want a fire much bigger than that. I've heard of many stories where people overfill a fireplace and it can actually cause a house fire. I could stuff this so full of firewood that flames would actually come out the front and either send smoke in the house or actually catch something on fie. You need to keep it, your fire, down to a size that is still manageable and that fits your fireplace. You also want to keep an eye on your firewood. As the firewood starts to burn, it can shift and move and actually a log could actually roll off the fire and come out the front and perhaps catch something on fire out here. So you just want to keep an eye on it ever once in a while with your poker if you need to. Readjust the wood to make sure that it is all seated properly and that you are not going to have any pieces that roll out or come loose. Just having a fire in your house, you need to keep a close eye on it.
