How to Do Cross Patterns in Juggling

Something I've mentioned in past clips is that a lot of even numbered tricks involve crossing throws, much like you would throw in a cascade. So, what I'm going to teach you now is basically a crossing pattern with four balls. This is essentially a five-ball pattern with a hole where the five ball would be. So obviously it's much more easier to do because you're only dealing with four objects and you can kind of cheat a little bit on the timing to learn. The site swap notation is 5, 5, 5, 5, 0. It looks like this. From an asynchronous turn, throw all four balls in a high cascade pattern. From that you can return directly to four balls. Now try to get it down on both sides starting left handed, and then once you can do it a few times on each side, try to switch back and forth. As you can see, my hand ends up empty occasionally where that fifth ball would be. Now this is a great drill for learning five balls, but also because you have to work with the cascade style throws, will prepare you for other tricks.
