JASON SHERIDAN: On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Jason Sheridan for Sheridan Fencing Academy here in New York City. Today, we'll be talking about beginning sabre fencing. We want to be able to combine the cuts we make, the movements with our arm and weapon with the footwork we've been practicing. Very simple way to start is to make a cut with a step forward. This should be done at different rhythms. For example, I can make a cut and here, I'm cutting just before the front foot lands. This one you should practice particularly often because this, for many people, is not only very difficult, but it's also a movement and a kind of timing that it's really a key to success in fencing. I have an early cut and just before my front foot lands, but after it has begun, it lands, my cut lands. Watch again. I can do the same to cut to different areas of target. You're very relaxed as you do this. You're very loose. At the end, keep your arm extended and check that you're loose and your en garde is still correct.
