JASON SHERIDAN: On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Jason Sheridan for Sheridan Fencing Academy here in New York City. Today, we will be taking about beginning sabre fencing. Once we're comfortable in en garde position, we're going to learn how to move. Moving is the most important thing in fencing. If we don't move well, we don't fence well. So, the first thing we're going to learn is stepping forward. From my en garde position, I'm going to very lightly move my front foot forward just a few inches and bring my back foot in. Watch again. From the en garde, front foot can forward smoothly, back foot follows. I'm not making an artificial movement like this. I'm gliding smoothly across the floor, very relaxed, very smooth. Bah, I've finished in my en garde position, the same position I started in. You want to try practicing this. Different sizes, they're never very large. Here, a little bit bigger maybe like so, different speeds as well. Bah, bah, like so, very important to move well.
