JOE WILES: We're going to take a look at number 49 which is Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze. This song begins on the 6th fret of your E string. Here is your pinky on the 8th fret of your D string. We're going to skip the string in between. We're going to go back and forth between those. It sounds like this. Not much to it, okay. The next bit, we're going to slide our ring finger into the 9th fret of the D string, index finger on the 7th fret of the G string, middle finger on the 8th fret of the B string and give it a little bend. Bring our index finger back down to the 7th fret of the D string. That riff together sounds like this. Again, the answer riff comes down here. I'm going to use my pinky and ring finger, slide up for the 3rd fret of the A and D strings up to the 5th fret. And then, I'm going to slide my ring finger from the 5th fret on the A string to the 7th fret, okay. That riff starts out by plucking the D string and sliding in. Again, pay attention to this hand on the picking. Those three sections put together, sound like this. In our next segment, we're going to talk about "Brain Stew" by Green Day.
