JOE WILES: We're counting down the top 80 most downloaded guitar tabs on the Internet, and coming in at number 51 is the Offspring's "The Kids Aren't Alright." Let's take a look at the guitar. We're going to start with our ring finger on the 8th fret of the D string, then we're going to use our index finger on the 6th fret of the G string. We're actually going to be using this index finger again when we go back to the 5th fret, okay? The picking pattern, if you pay attention to my right hand for this first bit, goes like this. Then slide it back up. That first riff again is...all right? Now we switch it up. We're going to put our ring finger on the 6th fret of the G string where our index finger just was, but we're going to put our index finger here on the 4th fret of the D string. We're going to do that same back-and-forth bit here. You'll notice, when I release my ring finger, I use the middle finger just because it's easier in this position. Okay? Now, on the D and the G strings, I'm going to use my ring and pinky on the 6th fret of both strings, and I'm going to use my middle finger back here to release my pinky down to my 5th. In the last bit, come back to your original--oh, excuse me, it's not the original, but you're going to put your index finger on the 6th fret of the D string. And let's try your pinky on the 8th fret of the G string, release that to the padded 6th string--excuse me, to the padded 6th fret, where your padding the 6th fret on both the D and the G strings. And this is the next chord, which is your middle finger on the 6th fret of the D string and your index finger on the 5th fret of the G string. Move back up to the 6th fret. That last bit goes like this. Slowly, in context, all four chords, they sound like this. To speed, that song sounds like this. Remember to use all down-strum 'cause the Offspring is a punk-rock band and punk rock sounds all down-strum, so remember that. Sounds like this. Work that through, and in the next segment, we're going to take a look at number 50. I'll see you there.
