How to Play "All the Small Things" on the Guitar

JOE WILES: Let's take a look at number 54, which is "All the Small Things" by Blink 182. Our guitar is back in standard tuning. This whole introduction is all three-fingered power chords. The first two is your index finger on the 3rd fret of the low E string, your ring finger on the 5th fret of the A string, and your pinky on the 5th fret of the D string. We're going to slide that down two frets to 1, 3, and 3 to start it off, and then we actually start this song. Let's move that power chord form up to the A string. This is on the 3rd fret of the A string, your ring finger is on the 5th fret of the D string, and your pinky is on the 5th fret of the G string. We're going to hit that quite a few times. Slide the whole thing up so your index is on the 10--excuse me, your index is on the 8, 10, and 10; 8th fret A string, 10th fret D string, 10 fret G string. Now, we're going to come back down to that very first power chord we played, which is index3rd fret E string; ring finger 5th fret A string, and pinky 5th fret D string. Slide it down two more, 1 on the E string, 3 and 3, then we're going to palm mute it, then hit it three more times. This last one sounds like this. Okay? All together, this whole pattern sounds like this. And to speed, it sounds like this. That's a really fun power chord basic riff. The trickiest part is going from the 3rd fret on the A string and sliding all the way up to that 8th fret. But give it a few tries, I'm sure you'll work it out. And in our next video, we're going to look at the Foo Fighters. I'll see you there.
