How to Play "Slither" on the Guitar

JOE WILES: We're going to take a look at number 55, which is "Slither" by Velvet Revolver. Let's take a look. All right, first step, we're going to down tune our low E string to a D. Hit your low E string and your D string, and match them by pulling your E string down, like so. If you have a tuner, you could just tune your low E string to a D note. Opened, it should like this. As we get into the song, we're going to bypass all the introduction stuff where the guitar's sliding and we're just going to get into that signature riff of this song. Now, we're only going to be working with the low two strings, the E and A string, okay? Hit it once then pad the 3rd fret of both strings, 4th fret, then open, one, two, three, four. Then, do the same thing on the 6th and 7th. So open, 3-4, open, 6-7, open, 10, open, 6-7, 0-5, 0-3-4. Now, in all times, we're padding both strings with our two fingers. I'll say out the fret names as I do that again. Open, 3-4, open, 6-7, open, 10, open, 6-7, open, 5, open 3-4. Slowly, it sounds like this. To speed, that same riff sounds like this. That's a really cool riff and a really simple one to learn. It's just how to remember them in order when you're playing 'em to speed. In our next segment, we're going to talk about number 54. I hope to see you there.
