How to Play "Through the Fire & Flames" on the Guitar

JOE WILES: In this segment, we're going to take a look at number 59, "Through the Fire and Flames" by DragonForce. Now, this is song is going to be really tricky because it uses a really fast right-handed alternating picking technique. To practice that, you could just hit any open string and start slowly back and forth. Down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, until you can play it quickly. It might take quite a while for you to get the alternate picking speed to be able to play this. Now, to actually play the song, it's all on the B string here. We're going to anchor our index finger on the 13th fret of the B string, right here. We're going to switch between going from the 16th fret with our ring finger, 16th fret, back and forth between the 16-13, 16-13, 16-13, okay? Then we're going to reach up our pinky to the 20th fret, 20-13, 20-13, 20-13. Take our pinky back down to the 18th fret, 18-13, 18-13, and so on, back to the 16-13, 16-13. Slowly, it sounds like this. And you continue like that. To speed, that riff sounds like this. That riff is really tricky. The timing between your two hands has to be impeccable, but it's a good technique to have in your guitar playing arsenal, so practice that a lot. In the next segment, we're going to take a look at number 58, which is "Hells Bells" by AC/DC.
