The History of Sport Bikes
Hi, my name is Chad. I’m going to talk a little bit about the origin of sport bikes. Sport bikes are, compared to other motorcycles, race replicas. And what that basically is is they are streetable versions of motorcycles that are used for motorcycle races. The technology is adapted to make it applicable for street but it really doesn’t take much difference. What’s on the street these days, five or ten years ago would have been on the race track around the world.
They are geared for performance. The way you sit on the bike, the way the bike’s suspension is set up, the motors, everything- it’s all about speed and performance. And that is what a sport bike is about. It’s about being able to ride, and ride fast, ride safely, and control the bike with the utmost of accuracy and agility. So that’s basically what a sport bike is- it’s a race replica that came off the race track and got onto the street in a more streetable way so that they don’t overheat or have the maintenance problems that you would have with a regular racebike. But other than that they’re pretty close to the real thing.
