Learn About Queens in Barbu

Queens or queenie beanies as one of my friends used to say. When you think of Queens you because the game does have a little bit of hearts in it you thing of the evil queen of spades and this is not the case at all. All the queens are created equal in Barbu and it doesn't matter whether you pick the queen of hearts or the queen of clubs or the diamonds or the spades. Each one of these is going to be six points against. Now this is an option that you want to kind of get out of the way early and when you bid queens, well you bid queens when you have a hand that doesn't have aces and kings in it , because aces and kings are tailor made for gobbling up queens and you may rest assured that if you have to leave one you opponents will accommodate you by slamming the queen on you on that particular suit. Negative six. So when you bid queens you want to have a hand that has lots of low cards. In fact, even if you had a option to go Nullos which the beauty of this game is your choice of options. You want to pick queens because if you have jacks on down, you have a suit that's jack, ten, nine, eight, that's a great suit because you can start leading that if it's not too long and try to force the queen out of somebody else's hand with that suit. So choose queens when you have low cards. Do not use queens as a throwaway if you have a lot of high cards because you are going to be forced into taking queens to the tune of six points a piece and do not bid queens with a hand that has a very long suit, because you can get trapped you will get more than one queen on you.
