Barbu is a four player game. It can be played with three and a dummy hand. It's a lot more tedious. If you really don't have four players, then you might want to get a fourth or consider another game, because its just difficult to play it with three. The rules are standard as they are for any card game. There are additional rules, whether you are beginning game or whether you're playing the advanced game. I urge anybody learning Barbu to play what we call the basic game. If you go to any site that has Barbu, there are three established online sites, they give a recap of the rules. I also recommend you go to a site called www. pagat.com. A site that's run by John Mccloud, who's over in London, England. By they way, his extensive card site will give you the rules and general international structure of all of the games. So if you're looking at another one of the card games we've discussed, you can get good rules there as well. But again, these are the standard rules and again you have to consider local rules. Barbu's rules are pretty set in stone. They really don't have a lot of variations. Four player game. Basic rules. We'll go through them for the individual games as well as the option to double. Double is sort of a bid that you're challenging the person that called it. You?re saying "I don't think you can make that hand, I'm going to double you."
