How to Play "Snow (Hey Oh)" on the Guitar

JOE WILES: Coming in at number 27 is a band that's been on the top 80 list a lot, it's the Red Hot Chili Peppers, it's "Snow (Hey Oh)." Let's take a look. All right we're going to start this off with our index finger on the 4th fret of the G sting. Then we're going to take our middle finger and put it on the 6th fret of the A string and then put our ring finger on the 6th fret of the D string here. We're going to hit those three in a row--and then back one. We're going to use our pinkie to hammer down onto the 6th fret above this 4th fret here on the G string. So it's going to go 4-6-4. We're going to hammer it on then pull it up. Then we're going to back--okay like this. Of course you have to play it much faster than that. The next chord we'll use, we're going to keep our index finger there and we'll put our middle finger on the 6th fret of the D string and we're going to put our pinkies on the 7th fret of the A string, hit those three in a row please. Then we're going to do the same hammer on--except this time with our ring finger, okay. We're going to move this chord form same fingering down a string, okay. Pinkie on the 7th fret of the low E, the middle finger on the 6th fret of the A, and index finger on the 4th fret of the D string keeping our ring fingers hovered over the 6th fret for the hammer-on and pull up. Same chord form up here, pinkie on the--where are we at-- 9th fret of the A string, middle finger on the 8th fret of the D string and index finger on the 6th fret of the G string. We're going to poise our ring fingers over the G string for the hammer-on again. Put all together, slowly, so you can follow, it sounds like this. Go ahead switch to the next chord. Move it down a string. Then move it up to this position here. Now in order to be able to play that quickly like John Frusciante does on the record, you really going to have to work that out, okay. So keep at it I'm sure you'll be able to get it. We're going to look at another Chili Peppers song in the next segment at number 26. I'll see you there.
