How to Play "Times Like These" on the Guitar

JOE WILES: We're coming in at number 34 with the Foo Fighters' "Times Like These." Let's take a look at the guitar. Now, the introduction is really simple. We're going to anchor our pinkie on the 5th fret of the high E string. Then we're going to take our ring, excuse me, our index finger, put it on the 3rd fret of the B string. Then we're going to take our ring finger and put it on the 5th fret of the G string. This chord, these high three, sound like this--okay? Now, to play along, we're going to use our middle finger to go on and off the 5th fret of the A string, okay? Like that. We're going to strum all five strings. All right. We're not going to include the low one here, okay? So we're actually going to hook our thumb over and mute it out so it doesn't ring out, okay? Together, the rhythm of the open to 5th fret A string sounds like this, okay? Open-5-5-open-5-open-5-5-open-5-open-5. I'm pretty sure. Let's look at that to tempo. Work that out. It's a really cool riff to learn. In our next segment, we're going to take a look at an Avenged Sevenfold tune. I'll see you there.
