Waste Products of Making Biodiesel
GRAYDON BLAIR: My name is Graydon Blair from Utah Biodiesel Supply, and on behalf of Expert Village, it's time to talk about what to do with the waste product. We've made biodiesel and now we have glycerine that we need to dispose of. One of the best ways to dispose of it is to make your own soap. You can make soap out of glycerine by using some lye and a little bit of vegetable oil and you can shower with it or you can clean things with it. In the old days, soap that was made from lye was some of the best out there. Because it's got glycerine in it, it's going to be really good on your hands. For details on how to make soap, you can look out on the internet and just search for biodiesel and soap. You'll find a plethora of sites that will come up. This is an apple-cinnamon bar and people actually really like using it. It smells good, it's good on my hands, and I like to use it. Also, you can dispose of it by taking it to a wastewater treatment plant where they can add it to something called a methane digester. For more information on this, be sure to look out on the web by typing biodiesel and glycerin disposal and a lot of it will come up.
