Hi, this is Ryan Gwilliam on behalf of Expert Village and I am going to show you how to create a boundary for your dog. I talked about how walking about properly and how you should always be the first one out the doors and now I am going to show you how not to do that. It is just a matter of getting them calm and then you can touch them lightly. It is actually even better than keep telling them to sit. Just touch them because they understand that a lot better because dogs don't talk to each other, they touch each other. So we have them sitting down calmly and then as soon as I open the door and he gets excited and starts to walk out, give him a quick tug like that. You shouldn't have to pull back hard. You just give him a nice firm correction and make sure that as soon as he is in position that you can loosen the leash. Say want to walk. Never want to have a tight lease like this because it confuses the dog. He doesn't know if he is being bad or what is going on. So you have the leash loose and when he makes a bad mistake, you give him a quick tug. That is how to create boundary for your dog.
