How to Reinstall Distributor Cap Components
Hi! My name is Nathan McCullough on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip, we’re going to talk about the proper reinstallation of the other related components we had to take off in order to service our distributor cap. The first thing we’re going to do, we’re going to flip our PCV holes back on. Pop it into its retaining clip. This will just slide right in, and you will feel it when bottoms out right there. That portion of it is taking care of. If you don’t seat this properly it will cause a very large vacuum leak in the intake manifold. The vehicle will not idle properly. 9 times out of 10 it will idle extremely high, like say around 1500 RPM. If that happens, you have a vacuum leak in here somewhere. Once we have that taken care of we’ll grab our cold air intake, fit it back down on its mounting bolts. Once we have in all our bolts, it has an expansion clamp down here. It’s just pretty much the spring loaded hose clamp. I like to use vice grips on them. Give it a squeeze, lock them down, and slide it on. That maintains the integrity of your air filter. If it doesn’t seat properly the engine is going to draw air from inside here, which is warm. It’s going to be thinner and it will have less oxygen in it, and not burn as efficiently as it can. Up here, it’s going to be drawing air from the front of the vehicle through ram air system, which is very cold. That will aide in it getting extra oxygen to the motor, you get an increase in gas mileage, and a little higher performance. We’ll put our three bolts back on, our nuts here. Like I said, I like to start them all before I tighten any of them down, that makes everything stays centered well. Put our 10 mm socket back on. They’re not a self locking style bolt but there is a rubber grommet over it, which will aide in retaining the attention and also deaden the vibration on it. There we go. That’s the proper installation of your cold air intake.
