How to Finish the Nose of a Surfboard

ABE TOKE: Hi. Welcome to Expert Village, my name is Abe Toke. I'm going to take you through step by step to shape yourself a complete surfboard. Now what I need to do is foil out this last little part of the nose. Like I said, this nose is pretty sensitive so you gotta really be careful on this area of the board. Lot of shapers have a different approach. I'm going to just do it by hand to show you guys, that's probably the easiest way if you're a beginning shaper. And that way is to take your spokeshave, kind of the same thing we did before, but now it's just a little bit lighter 'cause we're getting really thin here. Notice I'm keeping it kinda square right. I'd just going to turn those just a tinny bit and blend it into the rail line that I already have. From there, I'll go to the sanding block. Take out all these shearform marks. I kinda use it in the same I use the shearform. And once it starts to get pretty close, then you can kinda come into the rest of the board. Give it a final kind of touch. We'll do that same thing I did to the top to this bottom of the board. Taking out a couple of lines out of there and peel it off.
