ABE TOKE: Hi. Welcome to Expert Village, my name is Abe Toke. I'm going to take you through step by step to shape yourself a complete surfboard. It's good to take a minute and measure out the rocker. Take a nice good look at the rocker. The rocker is the bottom arc of the board. This is what gives the board a feel for pumping down a line and gives the board the tone, sets the tone for how the board's going to work, so we really want to get that right. I'm going to measure these ones out. Get yourself a nice long level. It doesn't have to be level, but something straight and long. Go ahead and throw it in the middle of the board here, and we'll take some rocker's dimensions. General rockers run between 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 inches depending on the length of the board. Nose rockers anywhere from 4--3-1/2 on to 6 inches. So the flatter the board, the faster, is the general rule. So I've just taken a couple of mental notes of what I want to do with the planer.
