How to Mount a Distributor Cap
Hi! My name is Nathan McCullough on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip, we’re going to discuss various mounting methods and how to remove them in order to get the distributor cap off. This one happens to use an 8 mm bolt Some use screws; some use various kinds of clips and hooks. All of them are relatively easy as long as you can get access to the bolts’ locations. This one happens to be a piece of cake. When removing the mounting bolts for your distributor cap, you have to be very careful. These bolts will be made of steel and this cap or the distributor, 9 times out of 10 will be plain cast aluminum. Those two corrode together. If you break that bolt, the distributor will need to be removed. The services of a certified mechanic will be needed employed. You’ll have to have a drilled intact. You also need to turn the bolt in the right direction. They’re so small, if you over tighten it, it will break and you will need to drilled and tapped again. Counterclockwise or lefty loosey is the way you need to go. Put your socket on there and give her a turn. Okay there’s one. Like I said, put it in your pocket so you do not lose it. We have one bolt left. There are the bolts for you, right there.
