Pinning Front & Back Pieces Together for Tablecloths

This is Vicki Walker for Expert Village. The top section of our decorative runner is complete with the gimp and all the different fabric pieces sewn together. It is time to put the backing on it now. The backing is not quiet as important as the top part. It would not be seen of course once the table runner is on the table. I do have a piece of fabric here just a piece of fabric that I happen to have that matches; maybe black would have been a better choice. But the green would be fine for this purpose. I would turn the runner over, I have cut the backing just the width that we need and we would line it up, pin it on. Cut off the end if there is any excess. It is just a little bit long on this end so I would pin all the way on the outside. Trim that end off. Then in the next clip we would be going over the 2 pieces together. I would be leaving one small section open so I would be able to turn it about 4 inches or so should do but I would leave a small amount so we can put the right side out. So we can turn it completely and we are almost finish. We would sew the edge shut with a hand stitch after that. For now, we are ready to finish pinning and head to the sewing machine.
