Momentum Jumps in Orange Box's Portal

JOHN SEXTON: Hi. I'm John Sexton on behalf of Expert Village. Today we're going to be learning how to play Portal, a game by Valve Software, a company with which I have no affiliation. So we go back and cross the catwalk and go to the other side. Go down the stairs that we find there and go around behind them. And this just gives us another view of that room that we were in. We want to go up. So let's see how we can do that. There's a little platform stub right there, that might be a good place to start. So we can put a portal right there and we can just stick our entrance, maybe right here and step out carefully onto this platform so we don't fall back down again. Now, we can see that there's another broken catwalk and a platform area over here, but there's no place to put a portal over there, it's a kind of a rusty metal wall and that will not take a portal. So, let's look on the other side of the wall, and this area will take a portal, so maybe we can do a momentum jump here and launch ourselves across. So now we're high enough above the ground to use the ground as a launch pad so to speak. We got our orange portal there and our blue in here. We can jump in and it launches us across. Great.
