Vocal Vibrato Techniques For Singing Better

Hey! I am Mark Black and welcome to expertvillage.com, we are going to be talking about vocal performance. First off our vibrato is going to be amplitude vibration that is a modulation. We want it to be loud and soft, not sharp and flat. I can vibrate vibrato like this “aaaaaaaaa!” That is sharp and flat. You can’t be in tune if I am going D, D#, D, D#, how am I going to be in tune with the D? I can’t. But I can be in tune to if I am being loud and soft. So if you have trouble with your vibrato, I want you to do is little exercise. I want you to imagine your quarter notes and one beat will be loud and one beat will be soft and so we’re going like this… I am not trying to vibrate, I am thinking loud and soft. So you start doing it do that with me right now… Take that exercise and gradually speed up. You want control but as you speed up, you will get to a speed where we no longer hear it as loud and soft what we hear it as a vibration. So going… “I love you, I need you” and you heard me getting putting it in and putting taking out slowing down, speeding up, the ear tracks all that stuff so it constantly goes “Dude, that’s really cool or really emotional or powerful.” I am not saying that I did it particularly good, I am just saying that’s what vibrato does. It makes the voice – all instruments are trying to be like the voice. The voice is alive, and all instruments are trying to be like the voice and vibrato is one of the distinctions that makes the instrument sound alive.
