Timing is Everything when Activating Elevator in Orange Box's Portal

JOHN SEXTON: Hi, I'm John Sexton on behalf of Expert Village. Today, we're going to be learning how to play Portal, a game by Valve Software, a company with which I have no affiliation. Step two is going to be once the power ball is in motion towards the door, we need to quickly make an exit portal here and an entrance here so we can peek through and press the button. We want to time that right so that we do that in the amount of time it takes for the power ball to come from this portal to the door. It's pretty difficult, but if we concentrate, we can get it. And it looks like this thing is about to launch another power ball for us, so let's just watch and be careful. Here it comes. Set the exit there, the entrance there, peek through, open the door, and there it goes. We were able to do it. So now the elevator is activated, and we have to wait for it to come across to pick us up. And we can see that the distance from the elevator to that cube is pretty high. We're not going to be able to just jump from the elevator to the cube. There's another area here that's down below that we will be able to get to, so we've got to go there and overcome the challenges that it has to offer before we can get up to the cube.
