Using Platforms to Advance to Next Level in Orange Box's Portal

JOHN SEXTON: Hi, I'm John Sexton on behalf of Expert Village. Today, we're going to be learning how to play Portal, a game by Valve Software, a company with which I have no affiliation. Now, we can look over here on our right, and there's a platform near the ground and one up here. We want to continue climbing up, so we can actually skip this platform for now and just go ahead and put one right up there and put one on the floor here on our platform, and it will pop right out. Now, here's the exit but it's not open, and we can look and see that the power line that runs to that door goes all the way across to a pressure plate on the other side, and we need to get over there so we can activate it. But there's no portal space over there, so we've got to come up with a way to get across this chasm, and that's where this platform comes in, the one that we skipped a moment ago. You can put an entrance portal here, and then if you look up above, there's the familiar extruded platform. That is a sign that we're probably going to need to launch out of it. So if we put one portal there and one below us, we can jump into the orange and launch out the blue and go across the chasm. Now, the pressure plate needs something to stay on it, so we're going to have to go and find a cube to do that job for us.
