Tips on Jumping Through Portals in Orange Box's Portal

JOHN SEXTON: Hi, I'm John Sexton on behalf of Expert Village. Today, we're going to be learning how to play Portal, a game by Valve Software, a company with which I have no affiliation. Okay, here we are in test chamber 18. This one has just about every danger that there could be. So we look and see that there's some dangerous ground here. We don't want to touch any of that because we'll die. Mostly black areas everywhere, so there's not very many places we can put a portal. But there's a little segment of wall here we can use, and the ceiling is also available for use. So if we want to get across this pit, we've gotta put a portal up there on the ceiling and then we can go through this little patch. Now, we've got a big, flat wall in front of us and a bunch more of black blocks and another ceiling that we can use, so let's place a portal here. But if you look around, there's nowhere for us to place a portal on the walls here. There's a little cubbyhole that we can go through here that reveals a little bit more of the industrial goings-on behind the scenes here at the Aperture Science Center. You can explore this if you like a little bit more detail about the game, but there's nothing useful back here so we'll just skip it for now.
