Pressing Top & Bottom Edges of Shower Curtain

This is Vicki Walker for Expert Village. Now that we have sewn our two panels together, right side and left side, we have a center seam we need to press open and we have sewn the side seams so we need to press those down so that it's nice and neat and flat. We'll also turn down the top and the bottom edges so we'll be prepared to hem the top and bottom of our shower curtain. We'll start with the side seam and just press it down to a nice flat edge. Like this. This is cotton fabric so I don't have to worry about sticking or burning but if it were another type of fabric I would be very cautious with my ironing to make sure it didn't end up scorching my fabric. I don't think that will be problem here. Now work on the center seam and press it open in hopes that once it is pressed open and the curtain is hanging you won't be able to see where the seam was. It will look like one continuous piece of fabric all away across the shower curtain. So far so good. And I will continue pressing that seam open in a moment but let me show you how we will turn down our hem for the top and the bottom. About two inches should be plenty to give us a nice hem on both the top and the bottom. We'll press that all away across and then we'll do the same thing on the bottom in just a moment and that will take care when I finish these seams, pressing seams open and pressing seams flat, that will take care of the pressing matters and we will go on to sewing a hem on the top and bottom of the shower curtain.
