Step Heel Turn in Advanced Tap Dancing

Hi. This is Sarah McLellan in New York City. We are at June Parody's Dance Studio and, on behalf of Expert Village, today I'm going to teach you some advanced tap moves. Follow me. So turns are something that I really love to do and I think I got my inspiration from watching, like MGM kind of movies when I was growing up, and especially Ann Miller. I loved the way that she turned. So it's important, I think, as a tap dancer to really practice these kinds of things with lots of different combinations. The first one we're going to do are pretty simple, step heel turns. Obviously, as you get faster, you can make them look a little bit more difficult and intricate. So, let's try them across the floor. Alright, we're going to start with the basic step, heel, step, heel turn. Step, heel, step, heel. Now, let's get ready to turn. Six, seven, eight, one, two, three, four, now a little faster. So the most important thing about turning, as you know, we're going to do some different variations, but really spot in your head. Look for a spot. Every time you turn, you're going to whip that head around and spot it back to the place you were looking and keep those feet nice and light underneath you. Alright, next up.
