How to Apply Binding to a Placemat

Hi. I'm Shelly Cordsen with Expert Village and we're working on our personality placemats. We are working on binding and this is a method that you can use on your quilts, baby blankets. We're doing on the placemats so you can use this technique other places. This is what fun is, is you can pick binding that will complement your project. This happens to be music material that's going to complement this music material. You can see my granddaughter who used Pink Panther. For her binding she wanted two. She wanted polka dots and she wanted this sparkly purple. So again, this is another area to involve the kids in the project. I cut my binding usually two and a quarter inches wide. I'm going to say at 44 inches wide cut two strips out of your fabric and sew them together. To make my binding I will take the 2 and a 1/2. I will make a corner triangle. Press it down. And then fold my whole strip in half. And just fold it all the way down. So what you're already getting is a biased edge to begin with.
